Clinical Apheresis Nurse I -Full Time

This individual will perform therapeutic apheresis and cellular therapy procedures both in-house and at contracted facilities in accordance to the physician orders and set procedures and policies, as well as coordinate, oversee and perform special donations procedures in-house.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform stem cell collections for oncology patients at We Are Blood office
  • Perform therapeutic apheresis procedures, such as red blood cell and plasma exchanges and white cell depletions acutely or on an outpatient basis in the hospital setting with contracting facilities
  • Review all request forms, physician’s orders, patient history, medications and lab work, as applicable.
  • Access and maintenance of central venous catheters (CVC) and ports.
  • Assess and monitor patients/donors while they undergo their ordered procedure.
  • Provide patient/caregiver education regarding procedures and post procedure care.
  • Respond to reactions, identify/treat symptoms, administer medications as ordered, and assist with bladder needs, as required for all in-house procedures. Provide support to primary nursing staff in hospital settings. Serve as liaison for patients and ordering physicians
  • Accurately record all procedure results, documentation and issued instructions in database and/or on required forms.
  • Other duties as assigned by Management.Requirements:
  • Must have an active unencumbered RN licensure in the State of Texas and hold a CPR certification.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age, have a valid Texas driver’s license, proof of vehicle insurance, and an acceptable driving record.
  • Must be able to work a flexible full-time work schedule and have availability to participate in the rotating evening/weekend on-call schedule. (30 hours a week guaranteed.)
  • Must have at least one year nursing experience in a hospital setting, oncology unit or clinic required. ICU, ER, pediatrics, apheresis, dialysis and/or oncology experience preferred. (On the job training is performed for apheresis.)

Risk & Facilities Administrative Coordinator

Provides high-level complex administrative support for the Risk & Facilities department with occasional support provided to the Chief Financial Officer. Ensure departmental efficiency and productivity directly supporting the Director, Risk Management and providing back up assistance to other departmental staff.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide oversight of assigned facilities contractors ensuring quality work is consistently delivered in accordance with the terms of the contract, this includes but is not limited to fleet maintenance services and janitorial services.
  • Develop the plan of execution for any special projects assigned
  • Coordinate Facilities and Safety Committee meetings to include preparing agendas, presentations, taking minutes and actively participating in both meetings.
  • Plan, develop, execute and maintain communication efforts in support of departmental contract and insurance matters, as needed.
  • Serve as a safety training backup for the Director, Risk Management
  • Perform routine inspections of the facilities at the Lamar campus looking for both janitorial issues and facilities related issues that need to be addressed.  As necessary inspect the satellite campuses to ensure the janitorial company is performing up to par.
  • Research supplier and vendor options for department, draft and process all departmental PO’s using our Terms and Conditions to protect our organization Draft all departmental check requests coordinating appropriate approvals on each and maintaining appropriate documentation.
  • Provide fleet services support to include conducting vehicle inspections, coordinating the repairs and maintenance for class C vehicles at the Lamar campus, maintain the fleet fuel system serving as the organization’s administrator, request all new and replacement toll tags as needed and maintain a system to track defensive driver training for all approved drivers and notify the Director, Risk Management when employees fail to take the training.
  • Maintain the Computerized Maintenance Management System ensuring the Facilities supervisor is notified when a work order is not addressed in a timely manner.  Additionally run weekly reports showing the back log of work orders and number of outstanding work orders as well as the back log of hours.  Maintains Maintenance Connection updates (adds new employees, terminates employees, POs, requestors, key distribution and tracking, etc.)
  • Maintain corporate contracts database scanning, updating, and maintenance.  Responsible for mailing of all contracts to the other party and tracking via return receipt.  Notify contract administrators regarding upcoming contract renewals and expirations.  At the direction of the Director, Risk Management send termination letter.
  • Request and track the receipt of certificates of insurance from customers and vendors at the outset of any contracts and annually thereafter.
  • Prepare and submit required reports for various licenses (city, state, county) after review by the Director, Risk Management
  • Prepare and maintain confidential departmental records, filing systems, and coordinates record management for the department.
  • Track and review all biohazard waste manifests and ensure any issues are addressed.
  • Maintain the OSHA Reportable Injury Log and send out notifications after exposures for baseline, three and six month follow up testing.
  • Provide back up support for the Director Risk Management by submitting claims to insurers as appropriate and requesting certificates of insurance from our insurers making sure the certificates are received by the requestor.
  • Serve on organizational committees as the risk and facilities department representative.

Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent and 5 or more years’ experience performing risk and/or facilities related tasks.  Prefer some college.
  • Prior property management experience preferred but not required
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality, and employ critical thinking skills to  make sound judgements and decisions as well as assimilate information and draw appropriate conclusions 
  • Must demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, working effectively with a wide range of professionals,
  • Proficiency using software sure as Microsoft Windows 98, Word, Access, and Excel.  Ability to acquire additional computer skills
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organization skills, the ability to handle multiple projects and follow through with little supervision
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision.
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills with the staff and the public.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential material.
  • Must be able to use sound judgment

Blood Distribution Courier, Full Time
We Are Blood

To maintain and manage the inventory of blood products and provide blood product distribution service in a regulated environment to hospitals, other blood centers to, and clients. Meet and exceed customer expectations and adhere to established quality practices while seeking to continually improve work performance.

 Responsibilities:

  • Serve as primary customer service representative between We Are Blood and the customer, both internal and external. Create and maintain excellent customer service. Take customer component orders, by phone or FAX.
  • Recognize and fulfill the unique inventory and service needs of each hospital and select appropriate components for distribution to ensure facility needs are met.
  • Manually and/or electronically log orders and shipments, ensuring accuracy and delivery time frames are met with strict adherence to SOP.
  • Demonstrate ability to multi-task in a fast paced regulated environment.
  • Inspect products or specimens and pack appropriately for shipment to ensure regulatory requirements are met for each type of shipment.
  • Perform irradiation procedures, including documentation and relabeling of components.
  • Deliver shipments to hospitals, other carriers or blood centers; and pick up shipments or specimens. Inspect and determine acceptability requirements for product return. Process expired platelets and/or red blood cells for further manufacturing and subsequent shipment to contracted entities.
  • Complete all required documentation accurately with strict adherence to cGMP and SOP.
  • Be responsible for monitoring and documenting storage temperatures for all components; in-house, and upon receipt. Take appropriate action in the occurrence of out-of-temp events.
  • Manage product inventory to reduce expiration rates while ensuring community needs are continually met.
  • Maintain vehicles and work areas in clean, well-organized state.
  • Maintain an acceptable driving record.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Some computer skills preferred.

Mobile Supervisor, Full Time
We are Blood

This individual will determine donor eligibility, perform phlebotomy techniques, and manage adverse donor reactions at blood drives across the Central Texas area including supervising on a mobile drive.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain complete familiarity with all departmental SOPs, quality policies and procedures, human resources policies and procedures, mainframe donor database, operator manuals, and other materials as appropriate
  • Anticipate and respond to organizational needs; plan for contingencies; organize/oversee processes and employees to promote a lean environment a lead and motivate staff.
  • Ensure thorough/effective dissemination of information; ensure timely and appropriate reporting of all Worker’s Compensation exposures, illness, or injuries.
  • Maintain open lines of communication with employees and operations manager
  • Ensure compliance with organizational and industry policies and procedures
  • Ensure proper maintenance of the donation site and equipment according to SOP (daily quality control and housekeeping procedures and routine/preventative maintenance); coordinate/ oversee work flow; ensure satisfactory levels of Mobile supplies and equipment
  • Provide timely and tailored training, feedback, and constructive criticism to improve and expand upon employees’ technique and knowledge
  • Advise mobile operations manager of issues/trends involving employees; execute on-the-spot corrections as needed
  • Provide timely and progressive counseling aimed at correcting performance problems; participate in the performance appraisal process of employees by maintaining notes on individual employees throughout the year and constructing fair, effective, unbiased, and factual performance comments; cultivate an environment of teamwork
  • Determine donor suitability according to SOP: Register donors; conduct/document medical history interviews; perform/document vital signs (pulse, blood pressure, hematocrit and temperature)
  • Perform whole blood and automated phlebotomy techniques on allogeneic, donors according to SOP: Vein selection; preparation of aseptic phlebotomy site; labeling of collection materials; venipuncture; sample collection; donor escort
  • Record Keeping: Accurately record donor phlebotomy results in electronic database or legibly on donor record and review electronic/hard copy documentation, as appropriate, according to SOP
  • Respond to donor reactions according to SOP: Identify/treat symptoms, monitor/perform vital signs (pulse and blood pressure) and accurately document the reaction
  • Perform special projects and other duties as assigned by mobile operations manager
  • Own the experience by meeting and exceeding customer service standards for internal and external customers: Stay in the know, Get funky, Open doors, Applause feels good and Cross the line.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of 2-4 years blood center experience, preferably in phlebotomy; prefer experience with ALYX or other automated collection system; college education or supervisory experience may substitute for blood center experience
  • CPR Certified
  • Must be at least 21 years of age, have a valid Texas driver’s license, proof of insurance, and an acceptable driving record; and be able to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within 6 months of employment.
  • Ability to work a flexible and open schedule including Saturdays/Sundays as needed
  • Ability to assume a lead role in a team environment
  • Ability to make priority determinations, and work without direct supervision
