OneBlood, the local not-for-profit blood center serving most of Florida and into parts of Georgia, Alabama and South Carolina is using live social media capabilities on a regular basis and as a result, the blood center is experiencing increased engagement with its content.

Blood Banks Adopting Screening Tools for Zika Virus


OneBlood has begun screening all blood donations for the Zika virus using investigative laboratory tests, and United States Blood Bank can resume collections following FDA approval of the use of the screening tools from Roche Holding and Hologic. “Based on the West Nile experience, we believe both of these two tests are very, very sensitive,” said Susan Stramer, chair of AABB’s Transfusion Transmitted Diseases Committee and the American Red Cross’ vice president for scientific affairs.
