PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITY

This Operations Coordinator-Collections position is responsible for orchestrating collection activities in order to achieve operational goals and standards including but not limited to production, compliance, cost, and customer service.  They must be able to perform all duties as outlined in the Phlebotomist I, Phlebotomist II, and Mobile/Site Supervisor job descriptions.  They must be able to identify production concerns and take appropriate steps to resolve the concerns in order to ensure continued daily operations.  This individual will consult with the manager as needed and will oversee the organization of daily operations.  This position acts as the primary contact and assumes managerial responsibilities in the absence of the manager.  Regular full-time attendance is required during office hours and on-call duties.

Oklahoma Blood Institute – This position will provide leadership and direction over all aspects of the Donor Services collection team for both mobile and fixed site operations. It is responsible for assessing, developing and implementing strategic plans to achieve donor services objectives and goals. Supervisor of Reference & Transfusion

The Supervisor of Reference & Transfusion (R&T) Service – Satellite Tarrant County Transfusion Service  with 1st, 2nd & 3rd shifts available will report to the Manager and/or designee of Reference & Transfusion (R&T) Services. The incumbent will participate in and give direction to all activities to include but not limited to:

  1. Support Carter BloodCare’s (CBC) vision, mission and core values.

Perform reference services (i.e. simple antibody resolution, patient antigen typing, RHIG workups, cord blood evaluations, and fetal maternal qualitative determinations).

Perform consultation services (i.e. blood selection, transfusion recommendations, testing interpretation, etc…).

Perform preventative maintenance, and/or quality control for blood products, reagents and equipment (routine quality control blood banking procedures).

Perform donor testing (i.e. blood type, antigen typing, and crossmatching).

Perform product manipulations (i.e. aliquoting, thawing, & pooling), issuing of the correct components and proper packing of the issued components for transport to the appropriate patient location(s), as applicable.

Perform visitor, student, and/or employee training/mentoring along with competency evaluations of employees (routine training, KnowledgeTrak & competency procedures).  

Perform document review and approval (i.e. antibody identification workups, daily quality control, preventative maintenance, etc…).

Complete and maintain all competency and proficiency testing evaluations as required by the R&T department for the Lead Tech job requirements.

Medical Technologist

The Medical Technologist (MLT/MT) will report to the Manager or designee of Reference & Transfusion (R&T) Services Satellite Transfusion Service located in Tarrant County with 1st, 2nd & 3rd shift available.  The incumbent will participate in all activities in the R&T Services to include but not limited to:

  1. Support Carter BloodCare’s (CBC) vision, mission and core values.
  2. Perform testing and services associated with assigned departmental duties. These duties are in the scope of complexity according to accrediting agencies.
  3. Participation in competency, proficiency, and educational opportunities.

By accomplishing these duties, the MLT/MT ensures that daily operations in the R&T satellite laboratory meet and follow all established guidelines, provide excellence in service and meet the needs of all R&T customers.

RELIABLE AND TRUSTWORTHY

Deemed reliable and trustworthy through interview and hiring practices of Carter BloodCare (CBC) to include but not limited to reference checks and background investigation.

EDUCATION

Associates or Bachelor’s Degree in Biology/Chemistry/Laboratory Sciences or related field required.

CERTIFICATION

MLT (ASCP), MT (ASCP), BB (ASCP), MT (AMT) or equivalent required.

NOTE:  Equivalency will be determined by the R&T Management team and Human Resources Department.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE

Recent graduate from an accredited Clinical Laboratory Sciences (CLS) program within the last five years and currently board eligible.

NOTE:  Must successfully obtain, maintain board certification (i.e. MLT (ASCP), CLS (ASCP) or equivalent) and provided board certification documentation to the CBC Human Resources department within 6 months of hire date.

Previous clinical laboratory experience preferred

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

Strong working knowledge of blood bank policies and procedures.

Detailed problem solving skills, ability to provide instruction to customers based on the problems presented and provide options for corrective action and proper documentation of the problem and resolution.

Familiarity with laboratory mathematics and computer skills, to include Microsoft Word, Access, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Effective organizational skills, attention to detail and consistent follow-through with a commitment to excellence.

The ability to multitask effectively, to establish appropriate priorities, to recognize and do what needs to be done without direction to ensure that work is completed efficiently and support teamwork and cooperation with co-workers.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Perform transfusion services (routine blood bank procedures).

Perform reference services (i.e. simple antibody resolution, patient antigen typing, RHIG workups, cord blood evaluations, and fetal maternal qualitative determinations).

Perform consultation services (i.e. blood selection, transfusion recommendations, testing interpretation, etc…).

Perform preventative maintenance, and/or quality control for blood products, reagents and equipment (routine quality control blood banking procedures).

Perform donor testing (i.e. blood type, antigen typing, and crossmatching).

Perform product manipulations (i.e. aliquoting, thawing, & pooling), issuing of the correct components and proper packing of the issued components for transport to the appropriate patient location(s), as applicable.

Complete and maintain all competency and proficiency testing evaluations as required by the R&T department for the Medical Technologists (MLT/MT) job requirements.

GENERAL DUTIES

Answering the telephones and/or department window with professional etiquette while providing exceptional customer service at all times to both internal and external clients. Research, resolve and document issues with appropriate follow up to the client.

Inspection readiness.

Provide accurate and legible reports and documentation.

Computer data entry.

Additional assignments / projects as required by the R&T Management team.

Clinical Apheresis Nurse

The Clinical Services Program works closely with physician offices and hospitals to meet the needs of patients referred to make autologous, or directed donations, cellular therapy collections or therapeutic phlebotomy or apheresis treatments. We are hiring a Clinical Apheresis Nurse to perform these procedures and oversee patients/donors throughout the process.

Responsibilities:

  • Qualify therapeutic apheresis and cellular therapy patients according to established organizational procedures and contracting partner policies.
  • Review all request forms, physician’s orders, patient history, medications and lab work, as applicable.
  • Assess and monitor patients/donors while they undergo their procedure.
  • Respond to reactions, identify/treat symptoms, administer medications as ordered, and assist with bladder needs, as required.
  • Access central venous catheters (CVC), perform CVC flush and anticoagulation; change CVC dressing; instruct patients on CVC care.
  • Accurately record all procedure results, documentation and issued instructions in database and/or on required forms.
  • Screen potential clinical patients/ donors, including autologous, directed/ dedicated donors, as well as therapeutic whole blood and double red cell patients.
  • Serve as liaison for patients and ordering physicians.
  • Act as back up for scheduling/confirming all clinical donation appointments and maintaining all appointment schedules.
  • Participate in rotating call schedule for external clinical procedures with contracting facilities.

Requirements:

  • Must have an active unencumbered RN licensure in the State of Texas and hold a CPR certification.
  • At least one year nursing experience in a hospital setting, oncology unit or clinic. A minimum of three years donor qualification related functions in a blood center may be substituted for some clinical experience.
  • Phlebotomy experience required.
  • ICU, ER, pediatrics, apheresis, dialysis and/or oncology experience preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills needed.
  • Possess compassionate interpersonal skills and excellent customer service skills.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age, hold a valid Texas driver’s license, maintain an acceptable driving record, and have proof of liability insurance.
  • Must be available to work full-time, Monday – Friday, with ability to participate in the rotating evening/weekend on-call schedule.
